As a preschooler, Brock Ray used his gift of verbal persuasion to convince other 4-year-olds to willingly surrender their toys to him. A wunderkind (or Bart Simpson personified) it was inevitable that Brock arrive at his destiny—Celarity Recruiter.
Yet, life’s passage is never quite that direct. As a student of philosophy, Brock’s journey began with a quest for insight.
Should he pursue his childhood dream of acting? Or should he follow his passion for design? Should he change his name to Ray Brock, since everyone always reversed it? Or should he go by the name “Rip Van Winkle” for his tendency to snooze through family functions? Finally, where would he find happiness?
In the end, Brock’s path led to success. He pursued his passion, creating graphic design solutions that thrilled clients. He joined the MN AIGA board and offered his award-winning design skills pro bono to many worthy causes. True, he had to forgo the footlights, but he compensated by becoming an avid theater buff. Brock stuck with his name, accepting that while confusing, it was also distinctive. His narcoleptic tendencies he combated with a dozen espressos a day. And happiness arrived with wife Jennifer, and son, Collin. As for his powers of persuasion, Brock combines them with his design expertise to convince coveted talent and impressive clients to work with Celarity. Good fortune or free will? Brock might persuade us it’s both.
