MPLS Madwomen – Minding the Gap: Pay Equity Panel

It’s 2019 and the pay gap still exists. So on Equal Pay Day (April 2), we’re going to hash out this issue with a panel of professionals in human resources, gender studies and gender equity. Join as we explore the theories around why there’s a gap, talk about the reality of that gap here in Minnesota, and provide insight around what you can do tomorrow to start closing it. We’ll cover everything from negotiation, if variations in salary are ok (or not) within a title, knowing your market value, and a healthy discussion about pay equity in Minnesota.
Sianneh Mulbah, VP of Human Resources, Timberwolves and Lynx
Sianneh oversees recruitment, staffing, diversity and inclusion, organizational development and more as VP of human resources for the Timberwolves and Lynx. She has also played a key role in the Minnesota Timberwolves and Lynx Women in Sports Leadership Council, which focuses on the professional growth and development of women in the workplace. Mulbah is a currently on the board of directors of Girls on the Run Twin Cities and the Twin Cities chapter of Women in Sports and Events (WISE).

Providing connections to professional networks, opportunities for stretch assignments or simply sitting on meetings are all ways to sponsor someone. Ed’s involvement in advertising spans over 30 years. Ranging from broadcast producer to his current role as director of recruiting, Ed’s curiosity and need for continued knowledge and growth has offered him considerable opportunities within this industry. In addition to recruiting for Carmichael Lynch and co-chairing the IPG Recruiters Roundtable, Ed founded and chaired both Carmichael Lynch’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee – Alloy – as well as IPG’s Twin Cities MERGE Committee.

Lisa Stratton, Co-Founder Emeriti of Gender Justice
As an attorney, Lisa Stratton specializes in gender discrimination cases. She began her career at the University of Minnesota Law School, where she later joined the faculty as a professor and director of the Workers’ Rights Clinic. She has won noteworthy federal cases on behalf of undocumented immigrant workers and women trailblazing in male-dominated industries, such as paper mills and processing plants.
Adriane Brown, Director of Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies, Augsburg
With three degrees in Gender, Sexuality and Women’s studies, Adriane deeply values the interdisciplinary, intersectional modes of inquiry which characterize the field. Her doctoral dissertation research focused on teenage girls’ self-representations in digital spaces. Her current research project examines the significance of gender and race in cosplay at multiple fan conventions, including Comic-Con International, C2E2, and GeekGirlCon.
Ali Zampino, Recruiter, Creative Circle
Ali is a recruiter at Creative Circle Minneapolis and has a background working in digital media and paid social for clients on the agency side. She recently found her true passion working to place candidates with similar skill sets In roles throughout the Twin Cities. She graduated from Winona State University with a BA in Advertising and Mass Communication and a minor in Intercultural Communications.
