Are you looking to be considered an expert in your field? There certainly aren’t any online-courses or certifications you can complete in order to be considered a Thought Leader. But, you can become one by implementing on-going personal branding strategies and taking advantage of your social networks. Creating a master plan that will market your skills and expand your professional connections over time will help give you the edge you need in order to become a Thought Leader.

Here are a few tips on how you can become an expert in your field:

1. Establish Your Personal Brand

Personal branding is a great way to build trust and for you to showcase your authenticity to a diverse audience. Your brand comes from your goals, key values, skills, and passion. These things will have a unique twist that no one else can claim. So, ensure that you are marketing yourself to the fullest.

Start out by enhancing your existing social media platforms – especially LinkedIn. Your profile should be up-to-date and should portray you as a professional, read this for tips! Showcase your career accomplishments and who you are as a person. These factors should be the foundation in your Thought Leadership strategy.

2. Introduce Yourself to Anyone and Everyone

In this day in age, the digital world has no limits. You’ve got the capability to learn about upcoming industry events, reach out to potential mentors, and grow your connections using social networks. To use your social networks effectively, you should be reaching out to new people regularly and connecting with anyone you meet at in-person events.

Make sure you are seeking out speaking opportunities as well. You may find opportunities to speak at a small event, a conference, a break-out session, on a webinar, or even, as a guest on a podcast. Speaking to an audience will give you an opportunity to express yourself and humanize your brand.  Are you a writer? If so, this is your time to shine. A great way to establish thought leadership is by writing on a regular basis. Ensure that you are establishing a niche that fits well with your personal brand. Share content with an audience that you have created using your social media accounts and by getting involved in social media groups whenever possible.

You can also develop your own personal blog. The goal of your blog is to have a steady stream of readers and followers acknowledging your work. One more tip: get published as often as you can – it’s in your favor to retain and gain fans!

4. Stay on Your Toes

If you are a thought leader in your industry, that means that you have a special knowledge of the field or industry that you work in. Staying up-to-date with the latest trends, technology, and best practices will be key. Being a leader requires you to be thinking in the future and you need to ensure that you are taking the time to study patterns in your desired field/industry.
